About Goran, and that was an amazing feat. That was also the same season that 12 people died on Everest, most associated with pay-to-climb guiding services.
Goran is now training for a solo sil to Antartica, then skiing to the south pole and back to Sweden.
Back to your trip. I can't help on the bus route, but am pretty sure there is service to Mojave. From Mojave to Lone Pine is about 120 miles (?) This route is longer than going from Death Valley (about 100 miles from DV to LP), but avoids about 10,000 of climbing two passes on your bike.
Better take several days, or more, or acclimating to the alttitude before you try Whitney. This is becuase the road is steep, and you gain altitude quickly, not over the course of weeks like the trekkers in the Himalayas do.
