Dick and J, This is a good idea in December through March, but such an activity now is very dangerous. Biking such long distances in 90-130 degree weather, having to traverse steep inclines, and not having a lot of people around in case of a problem, is a recipe for disaster. I used to Mt and road bike all the time in 90 plus degree weather. There was always several of us, we drank at least two gallons per person of water and still someone in our squad usually dehydrated. We were all in great shape, and very well trained for this activity. Every year people die in Death Valley doing far less strenous activity...
