The biggest industry in the United States is the Federal Government. Our government is like the Blob, it must continue to grow to justify its own existence. As far as the enviornment in DVNP, take a look at the NPSs proposed park improvement budget for FY02/03; the majority of expenditures will be to stabilize and remodel several "historic structures" in the park; namely most of the park administration and maintenance buildings located at Cow Creek - an area that is off-limits to park visitors. Another big chunk of our money will be spent on repaving Badwater Road and building the visitor area at the Badwater viewing site. Can anyone show me the enviornmental studies done by the NPS on the impact of these projects? I can imagine the pollution fallout just from the paving job. Get real, everyone! The enemy here is Uncle Sam and his out-of-control bureaucracy. If you try to condense the subject into the worn-out Democrats vs. Republicans diatribe, you are playing into the hands of the detractors.
