A buddy of mine once drove south from the Panamint Valley road and Goler Canyon road intersection and drove through Wingate. He got quite a ways in, I believe to the Death Valley slope. He got a welcoming party in a couple of Humvees sprouting big guns and escorted back to to the fence in Panamint Valley - he was hoping they'd escort him to the DV fence, but no luck. He did have some luck, however, as they sternly warned him not to pull such stunts again and let him go on his merry way.
