It was probably nothing, but about 15 to 20 years
ago, some friends and myself went down the road
from Lost Burro Mine and then south on the Racetrack
road. We were going to check out these "moving rocks."
We got just about even with the Grandstand when the road
was blocked rangers.
They would not let us go any farther. When they weren't
watching us we got out binocs and saw a crew burying
what looked pipes out on the lakebed. They were in a kind
of a grid like a giant lawn sprinkler system.
Now far be it from me to suggest any skullduggery
on the part of the Govt. to promote tourism. But we saw
what we saw!!! A system of airjets COULD move rocks over
a muddy lakebed! You be the judge!
