There are tons of very powerful boards out there for free or very acceptable price (written in PHP, CGI some are ASP, etc). They're also simple and quick to install.

InvisionBB (php) --free
phpBB (php) --free
XMB (php) --free
Ikonboard (cgi) --free but resource hog
YaBB (cgi) --free

The best is VBulletin (also php) and cost about $100...

They're all database driven (mainly mySQL, some also use flat databases)and pretty fast.

You can modify all of these easily to fit the site design, and out there are countless hacks as well.

I'm installing these boards on regular basis and most of the time I strip them down to basics (some people don't like load of functions).

Maybe we should contact the webmaster here (whoever that is) and see what happens.

damn heat :)
