I was in Modoc National Forest this weekend.
Had no trouble getting a campfire permit. As of 7/19 campfires are allowed in campground fire pits only, but stoves are still OK anywhere. They also told me that campfires would still be allowed in wilderness areas-which made no sense to them, as wilderness areas are so difficult to get to with firefighting equipment.
I spent the night at Lava Beds National Monument. No one had a campfire. I wondered if there was a ban, but there were no signs posted.
