Mahogany Flat

Can somebody tell us what it is like? We want to hike Telespope Peak in fall.
When should we get up in the morning? Will we get to the campground with a Ford Ranger Pickup,
but only 2WD, safely? Is the hike really 9 hours? And will we have nice company on
the campground, sharing interesting stories while sitting at the campfire (if this
is allowed at that time of course)? Any information is welcome.
