My hunch that the visitor center at Furnace Creek carries the book has been confirmed (I posted this hunch on the other DV board - the original question was also posed there).
The Interagency Center at Lone Pine has already been mentioned (I also mentioned this on the other board).
For those coming in from the north on US395, Eastern California Museum at Independence also carries it.
Another posibility, though I haven't actually checked, is Spellbinder Books in Bishop. It's in the downtown area across from the movie theater.
