4x4 rental story: a few years ago i reserved a 4x4 out of vegas, upon arrival at the agency i noticed stickers on the dash, on the windshield and side glass that said "no off pavement driving blah blah blah. i walked back in and asked if they were really serious, they assured me they were. i asked why anyone would pay extra money to rent the 4x4 if it could not be used. their response was (you'll love this) "we have a lot of clients who rent them because they look cool"
i then informed them that i was changing my reservation to their "compact car special" a savings to me of over $225 on this particular trip. when they asked why i was switching i simply said "no stickers on this one" they ended up renting me the 4x4 for the compact rate and watched while i removed the stickers.
