A couple of years ago I scheduled a trip where I was going to visit the remote areas of Saline and Eureka Valleys. I didn't plan to pass Stovepipe, Furnace or Scotty's. Being a conscientious citizen (not wanting a hassle if I encountered the "man") I wanted to pay my entrance fee. I telephoned the Visitor's Center and asked if I could pay by credit card and have my receipt sent to me in the mail. "No that is not possible. Park visitors must go to a entrance fee pay station." As it turned out, we ended up with an unplanned visit to Scotty's at the end of the trip. I paid the fee. It would be real cool if the fee could be paid by mail, telephone, or internet, so that back country travelers and shy people don't have to visit the tourist traps. MENDO PAUL
