Maybe the cistern did double duty, walk down the steps, cool off in the water, wash out the socks. Do you remember if the pool in the picture was cut into the marble? I'm wondering where the marble that was quarried was used. I suspect there are buildings in LA that have Carrara, Nevada marble. I wonder if the shipping record for the marble quarried exists?
