Death Valley for the FIRST time!

I am going to death valley for the first time, and would love to hear suggestions, tips, and "warnings" for a first timer, even a first time camper! As far as I know, we're leaving from SF, heading to Mamoth Lakes, Inyo National Forest, Gold Hitt, Beveridge (staying in Green Bear Cabin), and then to Saline Valley Warm Springs.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, and thank you!
