Definitely don't plan on it working in an emergency!
For us, it seems like most areas have no service.
Sometimes in high places (likely those that can see
Roger's Peak) cell calls can be made. We carry a
satellite phone, mostly for emergencies. We also
carry GPS, compass, paper topos, first aid kit, lots
of water, etc. Don't just rely on high tech alone.
A lot of people seem to be taking 2 meter ham gear.
I believe there is one or more repeaters in the are
for their use.
