Making WavesPosted by Harold Ericsson on October 18, 2002 at 19:58:10:
A friend and I were discussing the effect wind had on the rate of evaporation on a body of water. I mention that the wind would remove the air with higher humidity from near the surface of the water and replace that air with air of lower humidity facilitating evaporation of the water. He agreed, and then said that the wind would also create waves, which would increase the surface area of the water thus increasing evaporation. Does anyone know of any rule of thumb for increase in area of a body of water for given wave heights?
