Are you planning on being in DV for 3-5 days or 3 weeks? Your posting is unclear. Death Valley and surrounding areas is a HUGE place! If you are really going to be around for 3 weeks, I'd recommend using 2 or 3 base camps to make exploring different area easier. You might consider Mesquite Spring CG for exploring the north end of the park, Texas Spring CG at Furnace Creek for the southern end, and Stovepipe Wells or even Panamint Springs for the western areas. If you are prepared for getting onto some ofthe dirt back roads, there is a LOT more of the park to explore. As for routes, if you come down 95 to Beatty, the road down into DV is not too bad (just stay in low gears and stop to cool the brakes if used much). As other have stated, you probably want to avoid coming in from the west on 190. Art
