I kindly and respectfully beg to differ. Stovepipe is not a better location unless you enjoy the sound of a screaming diesel tour bus and 44 lost tourists from the mekong delta. It is closer to scottys and furnace creek but the drive from Panamint is the best part of the trip. Panamint will give you friendly service and a clean room. The micro brew is ice cold and you may accidently get a free refill from the only national park mayor in the world. The sunrise and sunset is quiet and private, and you will never find a resort that can offer so much with what they have.
I stayed at stovepipe during a recent event and was very disappointed with every aspect of the stay. When I tried to nicely advise the manager of a few problems (taking all distant facts in consideration) He told me "Sounds like you gotta problem...dont make it mine" The host at the buffet told us to leave because we did not know if there was 6 or 7 folks in our group(?)and the "self service buffet" has a service fee.The waiter apologized for the rude host and offered us free water to make up for his behavior. Said the man was new and did not like working there. I think those folks there are a little tense and I hope they work it out. They have a nice store, however I was kicked out of there because I had a chain on my wallet. (?) Travel safe!
