It is my understanding that you have been designated a Nice Person; my hitch in the Sierra Club, wall to wall with Nice People, taught me that a Nice Person when in a dispute delivers the shiv in the back with a smile on the face and to deadly effect. In your discussion of the word desart you are failing Nice Person criteria thus in danger of losing your status as a Nice Person.
My take on the word is this: a non-native English speaker doing his or her best or a product of a domestic school system firmly in the grip of the Nice People.
