I think those comments are appropriate for most of the desert backcountry, not just around the Barker Ranch! Most people that you run into is going to be a good person that enjoys the remote beauty of the desert, but as in every population there are a few weirdos - and in these remote locations it pays to be careful.
Part of the reason that we have a 180 pound dog with us.
