Regarding the "LA" drive, Scootertrash has the best route. If you were to consider this route you might consider using Burbank Airport. This is the easiest airport I know, and I have been in a lot of airports. Once you are in Burbank, you are almost out of LA... Just don't get on the road after 3:30 pm. Mapquest has this route pegged at 200 miles, and 5 hours. Five hours must include naps.... I have done it in less than 4 hours. As far as Vegas goes, I could not say - but if you got stuck there it would be more fun than Burbank... Good Luck.
