I agree. Try both ways. Airing down will give you a softer ride, but you still have to run slower than highway speeds, of course. I go down to about 20 pounds and drive so I don't knock the heck out of my vehicle. I can't afford to constantly make repairs to the ball joints, alignments, or anything else that gets jarred loose because of high speeds.
I use a 12 volt truck/RV pump that takes about 10 mins. to inflate from 0-33 pounds pressure. Roughly about 20 minutes to bring all 4 back up to pressure. Slow? Yes but it gets me out of the rough spots, and also gives me time to relax after having been bounced around as it is.
Also agree with the warning about blowing a bead. Repairing it is not for the inexperienced.
