I agree with Zardoz. A 2WD pickup will experience a lot of wheel hop when you hit washboard, but in 4WD there is hardly any wheel hop. It can make a big difference. When I owned 4WD trucks I ran them in 4WD ANY TIME I was in the dirt. It just makes for better handling.
