Surprise Canyon

A friend and I are planning a trip up Surprise Canyon soon, but I have heard many bad things about the people at the old Chris Wicht Camp, incluting shots fired. Is there any truth to these stories, or are they just stories? I am leary of leaving my vehicle at the old camp if there are such people there.
