You know, Art, he could be talking about Nightmare Gulch, too. Its lower reaches "cut through the big red rock cliffs."

It is closed much of the year for rapter protection but open to day use by vehicles from 16th to end of month between July and end of January. This is a very tough rock crawl, particularly since the major cave in at the upper entrance of the Gulch.

After ascending Nightmare, you can continue northeast along west ridge of Last Chance, then cut down to Cudahy's Camp. From there, either south to Pleasant Canyon and up to Schmidt Tunnel, or north all the way around the dog leg and up Copper Basin to tunnel.
