Thanks for that update, I was looking for current information. The other day I saw a hand-written sign on the road just east of Big Pine, on the way to the north pass road, taped onto the official "road closed" sign. It was dated Oct. 31, and said "Take the south pass. Don't go this way. Some CRIMINAL spiked the road that was put into the wilderness area around the washout."

So this makes me wonder, what is this road around the washout (sounds illegal) and what is up with the spiking of it? Anybody know?

Also, how far along the road is this washout from the turnoff from the Eureka Valley road?
