Thank you!! that's it - I found an old topo map and saw Hunter Mt. on it, I was surprised to see that had we gone a different way, instead of toward pavement out via olancha, we could've ended up at saline valley hot springs.
I don't think I'd try it all til i have 4wd again, titus was enough for my passenger car, would love to get up there again though, kids have never been.
