Went over South pass a week ago and also went over Steele Pass. South pass is fine just lots of washboard and sharp rocks. I heard the DPW is starting grading on the South end and working north this week. Could be snow on the South Pass now. Bring chains, shovel, and a couple of spare tires. Steele Pass is Hi clearance 4x4 but no big deal especialy if you are heading out of Saline Valley, driving down the narrows is a cake walk. This spring I never put my truck in 4 wheele drive from the springs to Eureka Dunes. Coming from the Dunes as we did last week you definetly need 4x4.
