Going North would be a lot easier. Coming from the north may leave you stranded in the wash as it requires a very steep climb out off the wash more suitable for an army tank. Yes, there is a by-pass about a mile down from Willow Creek. It is posted with a sign which says that the main road is open (not so) and to avoid the by-pass as it crosses wilderness area. I was told that the sign was put up by Lizard Lee.
