Jose -
You are getting some great advice here from some real experts, so I hate to butt in.

I think what we're saying is that the driving part isn't what deserve worry, but rather the possibility of being stranded due to mechanical problems.

The Lippencott and Steel Pass are very lonely places, particularly the Steel Pass, and ANY 4x4 can breakdown. It is unwise to venture there in a solo vehicle without being totally prepared.

Second, I echo the others' concerns about your tires. You probably don't have what we'd call offroad tires. I think they'd agree that a set of five BFG or similar all-terrain tires might be a good investment for this and future trips, especially if you plan to go it alone. So, take the rest of today off and visit your tire shop before leaving tomorrow. Otherwise, your street or light duty tires will likely see at least one flat on these trails.

Lastly, remember it is COLD out there right now. It's warming up a little from the deep chill of last week, but at the upper elevations of the Racetrack and Steel Pass it could be sub-freezing at night. Make sure you've got enough warm stuff.

PS - To answer your question, if you break down, do not leave your vehicle. Period.
