Thanks for writing. I don't think too many people have explored this area, mostly because of the reasons you describe. I was thinking of hiking the more southerly canyon first, but thought that might have been explored more often from people coming over the top from Phinney Canyon. So, if I do one, it will probably be the one to the northwest. I don't think the trek is as far from the road as you think, but I could be wrong. I haven't been there in two years. It sure would be neat to see something I've never seen, which usually happens in DVNP. But I would really love to see things that maybe no one in recent times has seen. I have topos that show water running through the canyons, probably intermittenly from the highlands above, which look forested. I'm planning on parking off the road and hiking up first thing in the morning, probably in late March. Do you have any DVNP trips planned? Where do you live? I'm from Oregon.
