vegas to the valley

Hi agin,
I was just looking at some websites for driving directions and was hoping for some feedback. Which is a better route to take. Up 95 to 373, or through the Pahrump area. I will be driving some cheesey economy rent a car. I will also need to stop at a decent grocery store to load up on food and beverages.
