There is only one open road in Panamint Valley north of Hwy 190 -- it is called the Lake Hill Road. This road follows the eastern shoreline of the playa for a few miles before making a sharp turn to the north. At this bend is room to park a couple of vehicles for the 3-4 mile hike to the sand dunes.

Following the road north it soon all but disappears in a boulder-strewn wash making for one hell of a rock crawl to the end of the road, under the Big Four Mine. Most people walk the last mile or so the the Big Four because of the difficult last stretch of road.

And that's it. This one and only road gives you access, but exploring must be done by foot.
