I took my 11 yearl-old-Niece to see Toni's place in March. While we watched a man walk to his car carrying something from her cabin we talked about what to do about it. My Niece thought we should notify BLM. I told her I'm sure they are aware that this is going on. Toni is gone. The man who took care of Tony is gone now too. Very likely the site belongs to someone but they don't want or need it. Everything turns to dust eventually. This too shall pass. I'm sorry I didn't knock on Tony's door two years ago when I had the chance to meet her. I hear she was a lovely person. While we were in the area we spotted a pile of rocks. My Niece dug around inside and found a coffee can with someone's old love letters in it. She wanted to read them but I made her put them back the way she found them and reminded her of her statement at Toni's cabin. Other people's property should be left alone even if it is only a pile of rocks. But we can look and appreciate what and who went before if the pile of rocks is not disturbed. Last Chance Canyon is one of my favorite desert places. It is ever changing within an ever changing univers. All we can do in our short time is to enjoy what is here now, as the Buddha did, from beneath the tree.
