Not to mention the hassle when you want to stop to pee -- or worse, when you get an itch to check a side trail that isn't on even the old topos, just to see where it goes. No thanks, for me & my lady it's just the desert, our rig w/7 days' survival gear, a satellite phone, the hope we won't break an axle, and a prayer that we won't run into anybody! We've occasionally gone with 1 or 2 other vehicles if tackling nasty trails, and hanging with friends is great, but then it's more the friends and less the land. But the coolest is going solo, drifting slow, sometimes idling along at a burro-walk speed, grooving on the sights & smells, going easy on the gear. That, and getting out & walking a lot. Just my $.02
