The two fine photographs of the Racetrack have prompted me to bring up some questions about air clarity and haze.
The haze that now seems prevalent in the High Sierra as viewed from the Owens Valley, the haze in the Owens Valley itself and the haze in the areas to the east of Owens, is that haze from the San Joaquin Valley?
That is not to say that after rain has passed through the area clarity in not like the ‘old days.’ But, even in the days when the normal clarity of the air was, by most standards, extraordinary there were very rare days when the clarity of the air was beyond extraordinary. The normal hues of the Panamint Buttes, for example, were elevated to a brilliance and clarity beyond anything on a ‘normal’ good day. I could count those unusual days on one hand. I would be interested to hear comments on the above.
