Ft. Irwin is a National Traing Center. It's used to train National Guard/Reserves and active duty. Why do we need it? Because Iran isn't gone, Korea isn't gone, Red China isn't gone, nor are all the little Russias that are left because of a political, not idealogical, break up. Why else do we need it? Let me put it this way. In my thirty years as a fireman in CA, we trained daily. We trained for all possible incidents that COULD happen, we trained for that job that we may NEVER have to perform. If we did have to though, we wanted it to go right the first time. Ft Irwin is a major player in keeping our troops alive, no matter what size battle they get in to.
