Well, it seems to me you've proved your true colors then, Paul. Yes, everything but the tunnel has been trashed up at Burro Schmidt's - but the tunnel is why everything was up there to begin with and that's what it's all about. You abandon things now and don't give a damn about all the effort that William Henry Schmidt put into building the tunnel? I suppose you don't care if the BLM closes it up and no one is ever allowed to go in there again? The cabins and junk was a part of the history - and it's sad what has happened to them, but let's not forget the tunnel itself - is it not worth preserving for further generations to
enjoy as well? Did you really only care about the junk around the tunnel and not the tunnel itself?

Has everyone forgotten that Seger's heir is a part of the decision making on all of this, too? It's not just the BLM to blame. It's everyone that has ever been involved with it - all made mistakes - Tonie, her heirs, David Ayers & friends, BLM, volunteers...etc. Even Tonie in her older years didn't keep things up as she should have - I'm sure it was because of her aging years & failing health - but still if you are going to blame someone blame her, as well. The whole area doesn't look a thing like it did back in the mid 1960's when Tonie first took over. There's some great pictures in Bob Powers last book Desert Country, of a much younger Tonie Seger in front of Schmidt's cabin that are testament to this. It should have been preserved that way throughout all of these years, but it wasn't, by anyone.

It's bad enough what's happened up at Burro Schmidt's, but it's even worse how everyone here has represented themselves. All of this namecalling and bickering, should have been put into some real hands on efforts in communication with the various parties involved so that this place could properly be saved.

And those of you involved in this bickering and namecalling? Where were you the several times my family has been in the area since March and David Ayers left? Paul - we never saw you there? And Berry - I know we have been up there on weekends you said you would be? Where were you? I'm beginning to wonder if either one of you exist except for here on the message board just to rile things up. The way I see it, if I had never been to the area and the only thing I had heard were the conversations here, I'd would have no interest in going up there for fear of meeting one of you and getting caught in the heat of your fire.
