Lee, we used to run a tour called the Indian Rock Art Tour. We started at Steam Wells, visited the petroglyphs there - you could drive & park right there by them then. There were structures at the Steam Wells, themselves, if I remember right. From there we eventually wound up at the petroglyphs at Inscription Canyon, and came out at Barstow.
This would have been probably 15 years ago, as our partner Marty's kids always went with us, and they were very young. They loved all of the petroglyphs, and enjoyed trying to catch lizards in the crevices of the rocks. They also would draw their own petroglyphs in the the dust on our old Blazer's rear window.
It saddens me that these places are closed, hard to access, disappearing, etc. The hands on education Marty J. and Brandy got, and the fun times we all had, should be available to everyone.
