Not Surprisingly, Four Corners is the only place in the United States where four states meet, a place that has attracted surveyors over the years. Tourists are also attracted to Four Corners where many can be viewed as they perform various contortions to be photographed with four limbs distributed equally among the various states; Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona.
There is a map in one of the offices at the site with the surveyed locations of "Four Corners" over a period of about one hundred years. Assuming that we now know the location of Four Corners down to the traditional size of a gnat's ass it is interesting to see the variations in the surveyor's efforts. Considering the circumstances under which the surveyors worked in those days they were remarkably accurate. If I remember correctly the largest error was about one thousand feet. In a sense, the maps show the development of surveying over the years.
