I don’t think very many of us want to drive “to a place which is not meant to be accessible by vehicle”. [Well, we may WANT to, but we know better.] Nor do we want to destroy anything in the desert we love. As others have said, we just want to continue to use the roads that have been there for many, many decades, as long as they are useable. Additionally, as more areas are closed to vehicular access, the impact to the areas still open is increased, possibly beyond their capacity.

Carrying just the water needed for a few days stay (springs being unpredictable) would be difficult, let alone the rest of the supplies needed -- especially for some of us “older folk”. As far as enjoying the solitude, I’ve made DV area trips that were primarily by vehicle, and gone for a couple of days without seeing another person.
