Chalfant was bought out by Scripps. They were only interested in the two newspapers (Mono Herald and Inyo Register) and sold the book publishing rights to Pete Korngible (sp?). Pete also obtained publishing rights to the periodical THE ALBUM, but was hobbled by legal issues concerning advertising that Scripps put in the fine print of the deal, so it died. Pete does or did have a shop next to the old Lazy A Vons (the store on the north side of town), where he sold the Chalfant published books and back issues of THE ALBUM (eBay is also a good source).

I don't know if Scripps is still involved. Barbara Ferry is still editor of the Inyo Register, she was onboard when Chalfant still ran things. I haven't paid any attention to see if Pete's still has his store(I have all the Chalfant books in my research library and all issues of THE ALBUM).
