I'd say if you were in a car with a little bit of spunk, the passes wouldn't slow you down too much. But if you're in a lugger, it could take you a while and get a little frustrating. I've traveled most of 50 and like it much more than the freeway (80) as far as scenery goes and seeing historical sites. If you go, check out the old Wells Fargo stop near Sand Mountain. And the small towns of Austin, Eureka and Ely and worth seeing.
