you didnt say if you were a tent or landbarge camper. In any event, I strongly recommend that you avoid Stovepipe or Furnace on a holiday weekend. The tour companies use this time of the year to bring elderly folks as they cannot do the heat of the summer. Panamint resort will suite your needs no matter how you travel. The rooms will be booked on the holiday but jerry will always make room for travelers who camp and the prices are more than fair. The food is great and the tap beer cold. I enjoy sitting under the Panamint sign at night watching the bats. Enjoy!
