I also highly recommend Steel Pass - the climb up out of Saline Valley is not that exciting (just following the bottom of the washes), but once you climb past the Marble Bath it gets more interesting, and the descent through Dedeckera Canyon into Eureka, with the dunes in the background, is a lot of fun.
On a side note, we found that Death Valley Rd between Big Pine and Eureka had the worst washboard we had ever seen, considerably worse than the Saline Valley Rd.
