I remember reading somewhere last year on this subject that the 4X4 coalitions had contracted for special studies on enviornmental impact to Surprise Canyon, including testing of the watershed on the route. I recall the studies concluding that there was no perceptable negative impact from vehicle use. Perhaps another poster knows where to find the data. The BLM has the authority right now to reestablish the Surprise Canyon vehicle route, since the enviornmental lawsuit injunctions have been lifted recently.
