HiWay50lvr is correct on the rules. You are absolutely allowed to back country camp and you do not need to be 2 miles off a backcountry dirt road. The Saline and Eureka Valleys are wide open within the other limits established as there are no "improved roads there at all. Please do not give the NPS any ideas on such rules so that we are eventually rounded up and limited to established and improved campgrounds in the Park. Just follow the guidelines set forth on the URL provided in a previous posting and note that DV Proper has some limitations as well as noted Historical Sites listed on the URL.
