You are right, lafd has little experience with wildland firefighting. But I do have experience having spent 4 seasons with the forest service and advancing to a gs 6. The lafd will not backfire your house but you should. LA County does backfire and they lose fewer wildland houses than the lafd. Again plug those attic vents and back fire your property. Footnote: No fire department will waste time trying to save a house with a shake shingle roof. These are exciting times to be a firefighter.
