Where to go from Ballarat

Hi,taking my son's boy scout troop camping at Ballarat.I have 4+4 surburban, so plenty of room.We will be there for a limited time. What canyon with mines and old cabins would you experts suggest ? I will have about 4 hours to take them exploring between other activies.Thanks for your time.
