I've often heard that lowering tire pressure increases the potential for puncture. I don't know whether or not that's correct, but I've always felt in my "gut" that a tire with lower pressure "gives a little" when hitting the "icebergs" in the road, where a firmer tire may not give and become damaged. I could be way off but I've always aired down to around 15 psi as soon as I hit dirt and over a lot of years and alot of miles I've never had a flat. Maybe it's luck, maybe it's driving style. I love to go slow. When I hit the trail, I'm never in a hurry. Why wait 6 months for an opportunity to hit the desert and then fly by like an F-16.
