We spent 2 nights in the old section of the Gold Hill hotel Sept 2022. Fun place, but no ghosts.

you need to read the book about the Goldfield Hotel i mentioned. Seems that Shirley who wrote the book had a Rock wilder who was a trained guard dog. No fear from what they say . After many encounters with weird hap-pings was scared to go into certain room in the Goldfield hotel. He would almost coward to get out. PS even a 9 or 40 cal cannot help if your mind or so called spirits wanted to be heard or felt. Wish my sister was still alive she could tell you things about hauntings in old Nevada or DV region. interesting story. I think some people can feel spirts and some cannot. I spent quite a bit of time in Goldfield hotel in early 70's , A friend and his dads had been caretakers there for years they never had any issues. There is a book about the Goldfield hotel and spirits named but Shirley you cannot leave. they had many paranormal encounters the people who bought it said it was almost every night thing. Also my sister who lived in Virginia City spoke of encounters in Gold Hill Hotel. We have never had anything happen in either place. this is first i have heard about DV inn encounters. SVJ

Hi everyone!

My father and I just finished a road trip from Reno to Vegas which included a stay at the Inn at Death Valley. We believe to have had an encounter with the spirit of Chef James Marquez. We did not believe in ghosts/spirits until our experience at the Inn's Dining Room...

Shortly before midnight, walking back to room 104 after stargazing, we accidentally stumbled upon the dining room. The door was cracked open with the lights off. Neither of us we're familiar with the ghost stories attached to the Oasis... We decided to take a quick look inside.

Immediately upon entering the dining room, it illuminated. Each light bulb appeared fully-functional. Each chair was pushed-in and evenly spaced. The dining room was in near perfect order. It was very quiet. My father and I did not walk around much... After taking 2 pictures of the dining room, we walked a few feet across the room to a display of unique rocks. This is when we believe Chef Marquez appeared...

Suddenly, a steady, slightly heavy-footed gait started throughout the dining room... Us, assuming the footsteps came from an above hotel guest, continued to admire the collection of rocks. This is when we joked about the Inn's dining room being a scene from the horror movie "The Shining". We also noticed the stack of spooky postcards sitting on the dining room table and decided to take one. The steady footsteps continued even after we left...

While exiting, we looked back at the dining room, expecting to see a second floor for guests/employees (to explain the footsteps). There was nothing... Nothing at all... This sent chills through our bodies and resulted in a restless night's sleep. I've been scouring the web for other stories of possible encounters with Chef Marquez since.

Do you remember Chef James Marquez? What kind of person was he like? Have you heard stories of his ghost still roaming around the Inn?

Thank you for reading!
